I'm happy to announce that I received some airplay on NPR! Granted, it happened a little while ago, and I'm just now finding out. However, I'm still thrilled to add another factoid to the pile of evidence: Real-world breakthroughs and support for my work continue to be received offline. In this case, someone chose to broadcast a 20-year old recording (of a song I wrote in college) on terrestrial radio in a 600,000-person market.
My song "Hide and Seek" from the album Vagus the Wandering Nerve was broadcast on NPR Illinois (WUIS) during their 2020 Halloween special, "Radio London's Dead Air: A Sonic Jack-O'-Lantern."
“Hide Seek” was one of the songs that closed out a 3-act playlist with mostly legendary artists (see images) and was one of only a few tracks from an independent artist to be included.
Although it’s not spooky themed, it’s associated with the “Sick Girl” episode of Showtime’s Masters of Horror anthology series. As a result, it also appeared on a La-La Land Records soundtrack compilation.
NPR Illinois airs at the frequency of 91.9 UIS (WUIS). As its call letters indicate, the station is owned and run by the University of Illinois at Springfield. It serves a broadcast audience of approximately 600,000 residents in the area.
Big belated thanks to host and programmer Bob Myer, wherever he is, for using his platform to showcase my work in such a fun way. Very cool!
