Don't Sass Your Mama Sister Transistor
Two songs from the 1960s/70s-inspired "Garagio" were requested and licensed for this empowering, woman-led feature film soundtrack. Please note: The tracks are credited to "Art Mechanix" on the full soundtrack, which is a compilation featuring many other talented artists.
"Darlin'" serves as the feature film follow-up to the acclaimed film "The Woman," a collaboration between director Lucky McKee and horror novelist Jack Ketchum. Both films are descendants of Ketchum's novel Off Season (1991).
In a notable role reversal reminiscent of the dynamic between McKee and Angela Bettis (who went from acting in McKee's "May" to directing its spiritual sequel, "Roman"), "Darlin'" marks the feature directorial debut of Pollyanna McIntosh. Longtime actor McIntosh not only starred as the titular character in "The Woman," but also further showcased her talents as the screenwriter for "Darlin'."
"Darlin'" boldly continues the Ketchum saga while evolving the narrative with a blend of genres including horror, drama, and elements of dark satire. The film consciously takes a nuanced approach to the dark feminist themes and biting social commentary established by its predecessors.
Reflecting this approach with an empowering message, McIntosh specifically sought to enhance the soundtrack with potent music from women artists. Two tracks from Sister Transistor's critically acclaimed album "Garagio" – "Don't Sass Your Mama" and "Caredevil (Do the Vine)"—were requested and officially licensed for the film immediately upon the album's release. These tracks perfectly complement McIntosh's unique vision and her exploration of strong, unconventional female narratives.
